The Slovak Philharmonic Chorus was founded in 1946 as part of Czechoslovakian Radio in Bratislava. Its founder and first director was Ladislav Slovak, permanent conductor and director of the Slovak Philharmonic formations. It was Slovak who first gave professional training to the chorus, raising its standards to a high level. In 1955, he was succeeded by Jan Maria Dobrodinsky and in 1957 the Chorus became part of the Solvak Philharmonic.

With the orchestra, the choir gave numerous concerts in Czechoslovakia and abroad with conductors such as Hermann Scherchen, Karl Richter and Claudio Abbado. The choir also performs independently in several European countries, apperaing at major festivals, and has made many recordings.
